FLOOR CARE

Keeping Floors Clean

Hardwood floors should be thoroughly cleaned at least once every other week.

Liquid spills should be wiped up and cleaned right away using a soft cotton cloth.

Avoid using typical household cleaners that include wax, soap, vinegar, or oils that can dull your floor’s finish. Instead, try a hardwood floor cleaning product like Bona.

Prevent Problems

  • Use area rugs and floor mats in high-traffic areas.
  • Use protectors—preferably made from felt—on furniture feet.
  • Do not slide furniture on your hardwood floors.
  • Have your floors re-coated every 3-5 years.
  • Try not to walk on your hardwood floors in high heels, cleats, or athletic spikes.
  • If you have pets, trim their claws.
  • Use a humidifier in dry weather and winter conditions.

Caring for Refinished or Newly-Finished Floors

Do not walk on recently finished floors in stocking feet. Wait a minimum of 24 hours before walking on your floors in shoes.

Wait approximately two weeks before moving furniture back onto your refinished flooring.

Keep pets off your hardwood floors for about two days.

Do not clean the floor for approximately one week—cleaning solutions may remove the finish.

Do not put rugs on the floor for at least two weeks—they may stick to the fresh finish and ruin both the flooring and the rug.
