Care for Your Floor

With proper care and maintenance, hardwood flooring from Creative Hardwood Floors Inc. can offer a lifetime of enjoyment! With that in mind, we’d like to offer these tips and suggestions for maintaining your new hardwood floor.

Keeping Floors Clean

  • Hardwood floors should be thoroughly cleaned at least once every other week
  • Liquid spills should be wiped up and cleaned right away using a soft cotton cloth
  • Avoid using typical household cleaners that include wax, soap, vinegar, or oils that can dull your floor’s finish. Instead, try a hardwood floor cleaning product like Bona.

Prevent Problems

  • Use area rugs and floor mats in high-traffic areas
  • Use protectors—preferably made from felt—on furniture feet
  • Do not slide furniture on your hardwood floors
  • Try not to walk on your hardwood floors in high-heels, cleats, or athletic spikes
  • If you have pets, trim their claws
  • Use a humidifier in dry weather and winter conditions
  • Have your floors re-coated every 3-5 years
  • Call us at 507-280-6282 when you notice wear patterns—we’ll make an appointment to refinish your floors!

Caring for Refinished or Newly-Finished Floors

  • Do not walk on recently finished floors in stocking feet. Wait a minimum of 24 hours before walking on your floors in shoes.
  • Wait approximately two weeks before moving furniture back onto your refinished flooring
  • Keep pets off your hardwood floors for about two days
  • Do not clean the floor for approximately one week—cleaning solutions may remove the finish
  • Do not put rugs on the floor for at least two weeks—they may stick to the fresh finish and ruin both the flooring and the rug
